Why do I need to fill in tags (tag/memo) when I withdraw or deposit certain cryptos?

Tag (tag/memo) is an unique digital string used to identify deposit address. Some blockchains use one shared deposit address for an entire platform, so the address alone can't tell who the funds are for — the tag does. Depending on the crypto and the platform, the same field may be labelled Tag, Memo, or Comment; they all serve the same purpose. Whenever a tag is required, you must fill in both the address and the tag. Not every crypto and network requires a tag. If no tag field is shown, the address alone is enough.

Note: deposit tag/memo are typically 7–8 digits long. Please refer to the tag/memo number displayed on the deposit page and enter it exactly as shown.

Depositing crypto to OKX

When you deposit to OKX, the tag is issued by us. You need to input both your OKX deposit address and the tag on the sending platform withdraw page.

What to do

  1. Open the deposit page on OKX and select the crypto and network you want to deposit

  2. Copy both the deposit address and the tag/memo/comment

  3. Paste both into the withdrawal process on the platform you're sending from

Withdrawing crypto from OKX

When you withdraw from OKX, the tag is issued by the receiving platform. You have to get it from wherever you're sending the funds to.

What to do

  1. Open the OKX app, go to Assets > Withdraw crypto, and select the crypto you want to withdraw

  2. Select Exchanges or unhosted wallets, then your preferred Network

  3. Enter the recipient's withdrawal address and their tag/memo/comment

  4. Enter the amount, submit the request, and complete the password and verification steps

If you're not sure whether the receiving platform needs a tag, ask them before you withdraw.

Important note:

  • If you’re withdrawing to a saved address from your address book, the Tag/Memo field may not appear, as it was already saved when the address was added.

  • If you're unsure whether the receiving platform requires a tag/memo, contact them to confirm before proceeding. Never enter random digits — submitting an incorrect tag/memo may result in permanent loss of funds.

  • If the Tag/Memo is entered incorrectly, the funds may not be credited successfully. In this case, please contact our support team.
